Apps & Support
Hardwire
Hardwire is a Mac app that sets what every mouse button and key does, in plain words. It works entirely on your Mac. It has no account, no analytics, no ads, and no network access of its own.

Getting started
- Open Hardwire. Your mice and keyboards appear on the left.
- Allow Accessibility when asked: System Settings, Privacy & Security, Accessibility, Hardwire.
- Click a button on the 3D model (or press it on your mouse), type what it should do, and press Return.
Requirements: macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple silicon or Intel Macs. Any USB or Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
AI apps, safe mode, and uninstall
Hardwire can talk to an AI app that supports MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, and VS Code. Open Hardwire, Settings, Connect AI, and pick the app. Keep Hardwire open. For any other app, use the command /Applications/Hardwire.app/Contents/MacOS/Hardwire with the argument --mcp.
Hold Option while opening Hardwire to start in safe mode without changing buttons or keys. Pause from the menu bar icon or with Option-Command-P. Type default to put a button back. Quitting Hardwire returns mouse buttons to normal. To remove it, quit and drag it to the Trash.
