One word. Three meanings.
A daily vocabulary quiz for your iMessage conversations. Pick a definition, lock your guess, and compare the results you choose to share.
Preparing for App Store review · iOS 17 or later
Planned as a one-time paid download. No account, ads, subscriptions, or in-app purchases. Availability and final local pricing will be shown on the App Store when released.
Getting started
- Once you have an installed release or test build, open a conversation in Messages.
- Tap + and find Daily Word. Scroll the app list or tap More if needed. The home-screen app provides onboarding and support; the quiz runs inside Messages.
- Tap Challenge the chat, then the Messages send arrow. The card carries the exact quiz so friends can play the same challenge.
- Open the card, choose one of three definitions, and lock your guess. Your first locked answer is final for that challenge.
- To share your answer, tap Send result, then the Messages send arrow. Playing or locking an answer never sends a message automatically.
- Open result replies to receive shared comparisons. You must lock your own answer before seeing other players’ selected answers and correctness inside the app.

Questions & help
Can friends see the answer before playing?
The chat card preview stays spoiler-free. Selected answers and correctness appear inside the app after you lock your own guess. This is a display rule: shared quiz and result data are included in the message link, not separately encrypted or protected from someone inspecting it.
Why doesn’t the comparison update automatically?
Replies carry snapshots of results shared so far, up to 24 players. Open newer replies to receive newer results. This is not a live scoreboard. Players appear as You, Other player, or numbered players; the app does not read contact names. A result reply can also include results already received for that quiz.
How do daily words, streaks, and history work?
The daily quiz changes at local midnight using the device’s calendar day. The bundled 365-word bank rotates continuously. Playing today’s quiz counts toward your personal streak even if your answer is wrong. Older shared quizzes keep their original questions and join your collection without extending today’s streak.
Where is my progress stored?
Your answers, completion dates, received results, player identifier, and card-style preference are stored locally in the Messages extension. The app has no account or app-provided cloud sync. Removing the app removes its local data; Apple may separately retain backups according to your settings.
Daily Word is missing from Messages
Confirm the app is installed, then check the Messages app list under + and More. On newer iOS versions, check Settings → Apps → Messages → iMessage Apps. Settings labels vary by iOS version. Enable Daily Word if it is disabled, then reopen the conversation.
A card won’t open, or someone’s result is missing
Open the original card in Messages rather than a browser. Confirm both players have a compatible installed app version. A result appears only after it is deliberately sent and you open the reply; locking a guess alone does not share it. Older app versions may not support newer result cards. If it still fails, contact support with the iOS and app versions.
