Tools do not appear

Confirm you are in a local Mac Codex session, install the exported companion, install the plugin, and start a new chat. Confirm ~/.local/bin/takeoff-mcp exists. A cloud chat cannot start the Mac companion.

Projects are missing or changes look old

Save in the app first. Check the project folder reported by health. A custom library can be configured with TAKEOFF_PROJECTS_DIR in your local connection environment. Do not delete or move your project library to fix discovery.

Tracing is unavailable or quantities are incomplete

Install PyMuPDF in the companion's Python environment, verify the source PDF exists, and calibrate its page in the Mac app. Scanned sheets do not provide the same vector linework as CAD PDFs. Use native exports and review all coverage gaps.

A proposal cannot be applied

Confirm its project identity and revision. After editing or recalibrating a project, save and create a new proposal. Do not enable legacy writes or modify open project files to bypass review.

What to include

Send your app/plugin versions, macOS and Codex versions, the action you attempted, and a redacted error message. Omit credentials, customer names, confidential drawings and full local file paths unless they are necessary and you choose to share them privately.

Remove the plugin

Disable or uninstall Construction Takeoff in your AI client. This does not remove the Mac app, companion, saved projects or generated proposals.
